Adjunct Nursing Instructor, Med Surg

**MSN & Med Surg Experience Required**
Assists in the planning, implementing, and evaluating the learning experiences (classroom and clinical, Virtual and Brick and Mortar), of students; provides student guidance; contributes to the promotion of the total programs; and demonstrates professionalism and self-development appropriate to teaching, service, and scholarship.
Carries out daily activities within appropriate ethical, regulatory and legal standards and adheres to the Virtua Health’s, “Corporate Compliance Code of Conduct Statement” as well as the other Corporate Compliance and HIPAA policies designated by Virtua Health, federal and state regulations. Complies with all organizational & departmental policies, procedures, and standards. Consistently maintains high standards of business and ethical conduct in accordance with applicable Federal, state and local laws and regulations including fraud, waste and abuse. Adheres to both the spirit and letter of applicable Federal, state and local laws and regulations with attention to Federal Department of Education regulations related FEPRA. Practices good faith in transactions occurring during the course of business. Steadfastly complies with all of Virtua Health’s privacy policies and reports any breach of such policies, whether the individual or another member of the workforce committed the breach. Refuses offers, solicitations and payments to induce referrals of the people we serve for an item of service reimbursable by a third party. Notifies their supervisor and/or the Director of Compliance and Privacy Officer of instances of non-compliance. Protects and retains records and documents as required by professional standards, governmental regulations and Virtua Health policies. Complies with organizational & departmental policies, procedures & standards, for example but not limited to: Associate health, Dress code, Attendance, Safety/Fire, Universal Precautions, Infection Control, and Safety Reporting.
Facilitates learning and creates an environment in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings that encourages student learning and the achievement of desired cognitive, affective and psychomotor outcomes. Implements a variety of evidenced based teaching strategies appropriate to learner needs, desired learner outcomes, content, and context. Recognizes multicultural, gender, and experiential influences on teaching and learning. Engages in self-reflection and continued learning to improve teaching practices that facilitate learning. Uses information technologies skillfully to support the teaching-learning process. Practices skilled oral, written, and electronic communication that reflects an awareness of self and others. Creates opportunities for learners to develop their critical thinking and critical reasoning skills. Shows enthusiasm for teaching, learning, and nursing that inspires and motivates students. Demonstrates respect for learners. Uses personal attributes (e.g. caring, confidence, patience, integrity and flexibility) that facilitate learning. Develops collegial working relationship with faculty colleagues. Develops effective collaborative relationship with clinical agency personnel to promote positive learning environments. Maintains the professional practice knowledge base needed to help learners prepare for contemporary nursing practice. Serves as a role model of professional nursing.
Facilitates learner development and socialization. Assists students to develop as nurses and integrate the values and behaviors expected of those who fulfill that role. Identifies individual learning styles and unique learning needs of diverse learners in planning learning activities. Provides resources to diverse learners that help meet their individual learning needs Engages in effective advisement and counseling strategies that help learners meet their professional goals. Creates learning environments that are focused on socialization to the role of the nurse and facilitate learners’ self-reflection and personal goal setting. Fosters the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective development of learners. Recognizes the influence of teaching styles and interpersonal interactions on learner outcomes when planning learning activities. Assists learners to develop the ability to engage in thoughtful and constructive self-evaluation. Models professional behaviors for learners including, but not limited to, involvement in professional organizations, engagement in lifelong learning activities, and dissemination of information through publications and presentations, and advocacy.
Use assessment and evaluation strategies. Utilizes a variety of strategies to assess and evaluate student learning in the classroom, laboratory and clinical settings. Uses a variety of strategies to assess and evaluate learning in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains. Implements evidence-based assessment and evaluation strategies that are appropriate student learning outcomes. Uses assessment and evaluation data to enhance the teaching-learning process. Provides timely, constructive, and thoughtful feedback to learners.
Function as a Change Agent and leader. Models cultural sensitivity. Promotes innovative practices in the educational environment. Develops leadership skills to shape and implement change in the educational environment
Pursue Continuous Professional Development in the Nurse Educator Role. Commits to on-going development and maintenance of competency in the role of the nurse educator and engages in scholarship. Acknowledges that scholarship is an integral component of the faculty role, and that teaching itself is a scholarly activity.
Demonstrates a commitment to life-long learning. Participates in professional development opportunities that increase one’s effectiveness in the role. Uses feedback gained from self, peer, student, and administrative evaluation to improve role effectiveness. Supports faculty colleagues Exhibits a spirit of inquiry about teaching and learning, student development, evaluation methods, and other aspects of the role. Demonstrates clinical competence in the area of expertise
Function within the Educational Environment - Determines own professional goals within the context of academic nursing and the mission of the nursing program. Integrates the values of respect, collegiality, professionalism, and caring to build a climate in the school of nursing that fosters the development of students and teachers. Incorporates the goals and mission of the nursing program when proposing change or managing issues.
Position Qualifications Required:
Required Experience:2+ years teaching experience, 3+ years’ experience as an RN
Required Education: Master of Nursing degree required, Master of Nursing Education, EdD, PhD or DNP preferred
Training / Certification / Licensure: RN licensure in the state of New Jersey required, BLS required, (ACLS, NALS, PALS required for specialty courses)
