AVP Behavioral Health Service Line
Provides leadership, vision, strategy, guidance, and executive oversight to the Behavioral Health service line across the continuum of care in order to achieve quality, financial, service and access goals. Collaborates with operational and physician leads to gain support for strategies and implement tactical plans. Responsible for development and implementation of strategic plan which includes developing a comprehensive Behavioral Health program at Virtua that addresses community need and has partners with existing providers in the community. Responsible for initiation of tactical plans and start-up phases for new initiatives, and developing extracurricular relationships to meet strategic objectives.
Strategic Planning: Provides a comprehensive and current inventory of behavioral health providers in the market that assesses access, capabilities, quality of care and geography. Embraces innovations in behavioral health care and technology to strategically evolve the program to meet community need and access requirements. Using internal and external resources, conducts an internal assessment of Virtua’s capabilities and gaps and develops a prioritized, multi phased strategic plan for supporting the community’s needs around behavioral health. This plan will determine where Virtua will invest to build programs and where Virtua will partner for program access with complete financial, operational and clinical analysis of each option and recommendation.
Program Development and Partnerships: Create business plans for new and expanded programs, reflecting strategic planning activities and decisions (see above). Responsible for overseeing the tactical plans for initiatives that have clear objectives, action steps, accountability, timelines and metrics to support plan execution. Since many plans/programs will require extracurricular partnerships, the incumbent will develop and maintain relations with community-based behavioral health providers, physician groups, non-profits, State of NJ Division of Mental Health, county government agencies, and other regional health systems, as needed, for formalized joint programs, community education programs, community outreach efforts, and legislative advocacy. Maintains strong collaborative and effective relationships with aligned physician groups and behavioral health agencies to foster engagement and understanding of patient and clinician needs.
Quality and Performance: Collaborates with the Behavioral Health Medical Director, Nursing leadership, aligned physicians and operational leaders to provide oversight for the service line and to establish and achieve prioritized performance measures and quality metrics as tracked and measured on a service line dashboard. Assures compliance with internal standards, applicable legal requirements and accreditation/regulatory standards. Facilitates the development of clinical and operational protocols, relevant budgets, G&Os, value based performance metrics and care redesign.
Content expert and Spokesperson: Utilizes existing research and supports pertinent new research to stay current in knowledge of industry. Organizational lead and content expert (internally and externally) to include but not limited to, the corporate areas of Marketing, Foundation, Support Services (vendor management), Legal, IT, Quality and Government relations. Responsibilities will include partnering with corporate leads to advocate on behalf of the program to support fund raising, marketing, legislative and regulatory issues. Fosters positive communication and reports on program’s progress to Senior Leadership, OMGs and Physician Councils/Departments. Promotes the service line in multiple venues with clear articulation of program capability and how to access care.
Position Qualifications Required:
12+ years of professional work experience, including supervisory/management in a healthcare-related field with a minimum of 7 years in the behavioral health field. Must have a thorough knowledge of health system organizations, administration, policies and procedures. Requires effective use of problem solving, negotiating, conflict management, team leading and teambuilding skills. Must possess ability to communicate well in written and verbal forms with others, both internally and externally. Requires strong business acumen with an ability to translate goals into actions.
Master’s degree in business, finance, or healthcare-related field. An undergraduate clinical degree in a behavioral health or aligned field is preferred.
