Job Summary:

The Course Coordinator supports the Dean in providing education, leadership, and support services to School of Nursing, students and faculty. The Course Coordinator works independently and collaboratively to provide a high degree of administrative coordination to courses. Serves as point-of-contact for faculty/students, collaborates with hospital staff regarding clinical components. Impeccable judgment and discretion along with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Exemplary organizational and planning abilities Will be inspirational, energetic, technologically savvy, and will be able to employ a collaborative style with the highest ethical standards to engender an environment of trust and cultivate a community engaged in and committed to continuous quality improvement.

Position Responsibilities:

Facilitates Learning

Creates an environment in academic and skills teaching that facilitates student learning and the achievement of desired cognitive, affective and psychomotor outcomes. Committed to advancing a diverse and inclusive culture and environment within the program, department, school, and institution.

Implements a variety of evidenced based teaching strategies appropriate to learner needs, desired learner outcomes, content, and context. Recognizes multicultural, gender, and experiential influences on teaching and learning. Uses information technologies skillfully to support the teaching-learning process. Practices skilled oral, written, and electronic communication that reflects an awareness of self and others. Creates opportunities for learners to develop their critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills. Shows enthusiasm for teaching, learning, and nursing that inspires and motivates students. Demonstrates respect by developing collegial working relationship with students, faculty and colleagues. Maintains the professional practice knowledge base needed to help learners prepare for contemporary nursing practice. Serves as a role model of professional nursing.

Facilitates Learner Development and Socialization

Assists students to develop as nurses and integrate the values and behaviors expected of those who fulfill that role.  For students, the Coordinator is an indispensable partner in removing obstacles and helping students progress through their programs. Ability to identify the diversity of the learners and their individual learning styles and needs by providing the appropriate resources that will help them meet their goals. Engages in effective advisement and counseling strategies.

Creates learning environments that are focused on socialization to the role of the nurse and facilitate learners’ self-reflection and personal goal setting by fostering the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective development of learners.

Recognizes the influence of teaching styles and interpersonal interactions on learner outcomes when planning learning activities. Assists learners to develop the ability to engage in thoughtful and constructive self-evaluation. Models professional behaviors for learners including, but not limited to, involvement in professional organizations, engagement in lifelong learning activities, and dissemination of information through publications, presentations, and advocacy.

Uses Assessment and Evaluation Strategies

Utilizes a variety of strategies to assess and evaluate student learning in classroom, laboratory and clinical settings.  Provides timely, constructive, and thoughtful feedback to learners. Coaches and counsels students regarding their progress on an ongoing basis. Maintains records on grades, attendance, advising and mentoring and submits required reports in the established time frame. Assists the students in developing abilities in self-evaluation. Confers with Dean, Associate Dean and faculty when there is evidence of unsatisfactory student performance.

Participates in Curriculum Design and Evaluation of Program Outcomes

Demonstrates knowledge of curriculum development by formulating program outcomes and designing curricula that reflects current nursing and health care trends to meet community and societal, health care trends and prepares graduates to function effectively in the health care environment. This includes developing competency statements, writing learning objectives, and selecting appropriate learning activities and evaluation strategies Bases curriculum implementation decisions on sound educational principles, theory, and research. Assists faculty in implementing approved curriculum content on an ongoing basis. Reviews test questions and item analyses and guides faculty in appropriate action. Reviews all assigned courses to ensure that they follow the present curriculum design on an ongoing basis. Meet regularly with assigned course teams to identify and resolve problems related to the implementation of the curriculum design and to facilitate the continual evaluation of all aspects of program implementation. Assists the Dean in the analysis of the effectiveness of the curriculum on an annual basis.

Participates in School of Nursing Management

Functions as a member of Faculty Organization. Determines and resolves schedule changes and adjustments for staffing in program courses each academic term. Assists in ensuring that assigned staff effectively prioritize work and time so to have the capacity to adapt and respond to last minute changes. Appropriately delegates operational tasks on an as needed basis. Participates in the evaluation of new equipment and instructional tools and makes recommendations to the Dean. Assists the Dean in planning and maintaining the educational and professional standards of the school through the development of school policies and procedures. Assists in the evaluation of potential candidates as requested. Participates in the development and implementation of the Systematic Plan of Evaluation. Participates in Faculty Workshops. Participates in acquiring and maintaining facilities and resources to meet departmental goals. Assists faculty in appraising all clinical facilities in light of course and clinical student learning outcomes and makes recommendations to the Dean. Assists in the development of projected budget for assigned courses. Ensures clinical facility receives copy of course materials prior to clinical rotations. Assists the Dean in determining the staffing needs, including interviewing, scheduling, selecting staff for department, orientation and performance appraisals including the evaluation of faculty classroom teaching. Reviews and revises Faculty Manual and Student Handbook on an annual basis or as directed by the Dean. Participates in the orientation of incoming students. Performs other duties as requested by the Dean.

Coordinates Student Academic Support

Develops and delivers a contract to all students, wishing to return following a course failure or with academic deficiencies, according to policy, in the Academic Support Program. Assesses and provides academic support to referred students for learning needs. Monitors referred students for program compliance. Maintains open communication with faculty and Dean regarding referred students. Maintains documentation for each student referred to the Academic Support Program.

Engages in Scholarship

Demonstrates clinical competence in the area of expertise. Maintains current clinical practice. Maintains certification in area of expertise .

Pursues Continuous Professional Development in the Nurse Educator Role

Demonstrates a commitment to life-long learning thru on-going development and maintenance of competency in the role of the nurse educator. Uses feedback gained from self, peer, student, and administrative evaluation to improve role effectiveness. Supports faculty colleagues. Pursues doctoral education if not completed. Pursues certification in area of practice. Willingly serves as mentor to new faculty.

Functions as a Change Agent and Leader

Models cultural sensitivity by promoting innovative practices in the educational environment to enhance success of culturally diverse students. Demonstrates strong leadership abilities and skills to shape and implement change in the educational environment. Actively participates in support of ESL students.

Position Qualifications Required:

Required Experience: 3+ years teaching experience in Nursing education required

Required Education: Doctorate degree required (EdD, PhD, DNP), Master’s Degree in Nursing accepted- must be actively enrolled in a Doctorate program

Training / Certification / Licensure: RN license in the state of New Jersey and BLS required. CNE preferred.

Annual Salary: $101,571 - $167,442 The actual salary/rate will vary based on applicant’s experience as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
