Job Summary:

Reports directly to the Assistant Vice President of Transformation & Innovation.  This position provides oversight within Virtua’s Transformation & Innovation Office (TIO), with the ability to lead by influencing others at all levels across the organization.  The Director must have the ability to develop and cultivate stakeholder relationships, evaluate outcomes, and manage staff to ensure they can advance projects toward implementation and impact. Manage operational initiatives in collaboration with clinical, operational, and IT leaders to transform the way Virtua engages with consumers and healthcare systems . Navigates the operational complexities of a healthcare organization by leading with influence to effectively launch projects for transformation and innovation by partnering with operational leaders and SMEs of processes, workflows, and care delivery to drive impact. Directs staff and manages them to ensure technology solutions are managed effectively, delivered on time, and within cost. Supports team members to ensure they identify risks, contingency plans, and engage with stakeholders for effective collaboration.

Position Responsibilities:

Transformation & Innovation

  • Implement transformation and innovation strategies to organize, motivate, and lead a team to define and deliver technology solutions targeting opportunities in clinical, business, and financial operations
  • Influence healthcare department’s understanding of how to integrate, measure, and evaluate design-led approaches
  • Collaborate with leaders (from IT, Marketing, HR, Integrated Solutions, Analytics, and others) as part of a matrixed organization to achieve the goals of stakeholders and develop the right framework for operational transformation
  • Leverage data to research and answer complex business questions by collaborating with various stakeholders to synthesize and derive solutions with practical value to existing business challenges
  • Support the prioritization of requests, scoping efforts, budgeting, staffing, and funding for new transformation and innovation initiatives
  • Provide leadership in the fulfillment of Virtua’s innovation strategy by participating in vision, planning, and execution discussions

Project Management and Alignment

  • Be an ambassador for the department and organization with the ability to interact with health system employees and patients in a sensitive clinical environment
  • In cooperation with sponsors from across the business, develops and presents for executive approval the portfolio of Transformation and Innovation programs and projects, and related budget estimates.
  • Tracks the progress of in-flight programs and projects to senior management and manages the enterprise-wide prioritization process for incoming programs and projects.
  • Develops and supports the process of tracking the supply and demand of resources supporting programs and projects.
  • Determine resource/capacity and planning functions to assess the need for additional staff and/or vendors.

Transformation & Innovation Office Operations

  • Manage the clinical practice, various technology clinical programs, and incubator pilots day-to-day activities within the Transformation and Innovation department.
  • Ensures projects are appropriately planned and adhere to agreed upon project management methodology, and that risks, issues and dependencies are identified, monitored and proactively managed to minimize disruption to successful delivery.
  • Ensures monitoring of progress against all projects is timely and accurate, and enables project sponsors and stakeholders to have visibility and sufficient information to make the required decisions.
  • Establishes and enforces methodology for project reviews, approvals, stage gate processes, deliverables, and internal and external audit standards.
  • Assists in evaluating actionable KPIs (clinical indicators, quality indicators, growth indicators, cost indicators) to track activity and outcomes

    Staff Management and Mentoring

    • Makes professional development a priority by continually pursuing learning and professional/educational credentials (certifications & advanced degrees) for team members.
    • Develops and guides Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for staff.
    • Mentors new staff in Transformation and Innovation office, project management methodology, and project portfolio management.
    • Manages staff, sets performance standards, manages workflow, grants authorities, evaluates performance, provides coaching/mentoring, and recommends personnel actions within delegated authorities. Consults with Human Resources as appropriate.


    Position Qualifications Required:

    Required Experience:

    • 6-8 years of healthcare leadership experience, preferably with project management and information technology.

      Significant health care experience (either consulting, technology health vendor, or health system) and working knowledge of  technology health and health care operations in revenue cycle, clinical transformation, process improvement, or related areas.

      Experience building and leading design teams, working with cross-functional partners, and effectively managing external vendor relationships and activities.

      Knowledge of common corporate business functions, with the ability to develop significant content expertise in the business area(s) where most projects are managed, including current trends and information that could impact the business and organization.

      Demonstrated teambuilding skills, working with leaders as part of a matrixed team, partnering with information services, business functions, and clinical service lines to launch projects.

      Experience in the design, implementation, and evaluation of organizational transformation technology solutions and the delivery of large scale change with added value to the organization.

      Skilled at building and maintaining effective working relationships with executives, management, and project team members, with the ability to gain and retain senior level confidence to execute complex projects.

    Required Education:

    • Undergraduate degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or Computer Science is required.

      Graduate degree in applicable field is preferred.

    Training / Certification / Licensure:

    • Epic certification required.

      Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (MS Project, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).

    Annual Salary: $148,425 - $238,177 The actual salary/rate will vary based on applicant’s experience as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

    This position is eligible to participate in one of Virtua’s annual incentive compensation plan (AICP). The amount is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan document.
